COURSE INFORMATION

Junior High Band

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

• To reinforce proper techniques of playing a wind or percussion instrument as learned in previous courses of instrumental music study thereby demonstrating mastery by the students of these techniques.
• To study music of a variety of styles and cultures through the use of instrumental music performance.
• To support the community (school & local) through public performance and appearances.
• To develop a sense of community and teamwork through the preparation and performance of instrumental (band) music.
• To develop a sense of school spirit and camaraderie as we support other organizations within the school.

REQUIRED MATERIALS

• Instrument and Accessories (reeds, drum sticks, mallets, etc.)
• Pencil
• Chromebook
• Personal Calendar or Planner (recommended for keeping track of band events)
• Dress Clothes (uniform dress will be discussed)

METHODS OF INSTRUCTION

• Demonstration
• Lecture
• Peer tutoring (collaboration)

• SmartMusic

EVALUATION (Grading, etc.)

    Quarter grades will be based on an accumulation of points earned by the student through the following class and extra-curricular activities.  Not to exceed the percentages noted below:

• Daily Class Participation 60%
• Performance Attendance & Participation 40%
