A piano lesson site that I have used personally has recently updated its program.  The free trial that existed previously in a very limited format, just a few lessons, has expanded its free offering with a more complete curriculum.  The weekly lessons are made available for 2 weeks at a time.  Please check it out and establish a trial membership HERE only if you are a very beginning level student.

FIRST DAY INTRO TO THE COURSE:
There is no prerequisite to this course other than a desire to learn and a willingness to FAIL.  If this is your first experience with playing an instrument or even your second or third, this instrument will challenge you.  It takes a coordination unlike almost any other instrument.  It will use more of your brain than almost any other discipline.

For these reasons, you are expected to work hard during the time you are in class.  This will involve time while sitting at a piano or keyboard practicing your technique or getting drill and practice on
reading music notes or spending time tutoring and collaborating about skills taught by Mr. Haigh and other more advanced students. Even though piano is primarily a solo and/or accompaniment instrument.  You will be expected to perform for Mr. Haigh and for each other during class time and on special "recital" occasions.  These recitals count for a great deal of points as they are like projects or semester exams in other classes which display mastery of an accumulated body of knowledge and skills.

Grading:

Daily Practice and Participation 5 points per day

1.) Play on an Acoustic Piano  2.) Play on a digital keyboard, 3.) Spend some time on MusicTheory.net, and 4.) Collaborate and share what you have learned to do today with another student or Mr. Haigh.

Recital Performances 75 points per performance
Each week students will demonstrate skills in front of other members of the class.
About mid-term, you will be required to perform a short piece of music for the class.  This is called a recital in the music world, but it is basically a test of material you have learned and a chance for you to demonstrate your technical and musical learning over the previous weeks.  At the end of the semester, a public recital will be held where you may invite guests to come to hear your performance.

Quizzes and submitted assignments, 15 points each
Most of these will be submitted MusicTheory.net "progress reports"

The school grading scale will be applied to the total points with a final recital counting as 10% of your final grade.

Documents related to this information will be accessed in a folder that you will have full access/editing rights to during the course of this class.   The link to that folder is HERE

So....  Now that we have talked about the class and found your Google Drive Folder for class related documents, Let's get to work... please click the link below and let me introduce you to some keyboard music theory.

FREE PIANO MUSIC

Here are some links to "free" piano music.  If you want the full piece, you usually need to buy it.  But some good stuff to learn.  Thanks to former piano class students, Savannah Deakyne. and Timber Tucker, for recommending these sites.
.
Online Sheet Music.com  (piano resources)
Making Music Learning Fun.com (piano resources)

Another site discovered by Jessica Williams is Musescore an online notation software where people have shared their arrangements.

3/17  Here is a link to a reverse note naming exercise to practice naming notes on the piano keyboard.
Note Naming on the keyboard (Keyboard Reverse Identification) No key signature

If you need a review follow the link below.

12/3  Here is another theory lesson.   The Key SIgnature  If you have any questions after working through this, just let me know.

Most of you are doing a great job with the note naming on the musictheory.net  The next exercise I would encourage you to work with is found here.

Naming Notes by Instrument (Reverse)

Here is a link to a site you might be interested in checking out... Recommended by Justin O.
